INAUGURAL CEREMONY FOR THE DECLARATION OF PERAK ISLAND AS THE WESTEST REFERENCE POINT OF MALAYSIA FOR THE CALCULATION OF THE ISLAMIC CALENDAR AND THE LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL ASTROLOGICAL MONTH IN 2022.

The Inauguration Ceremony and Declaration of Perak Island as Malaysia's Westernmost Point of Reference was held on 25 Zulhijah 1443H corresponding to 25 July 2022M (Monday) at the Main Banquet Hall of Wisma Darul Aman, Alor Setar, Kedah which was also attended by YBrs. Mr. Dr. Ahmad Sanusi bin Che Cob, Divisional Survey Director (Geodetic Survey), JUPEM. His Majesty Tuanku Sultan Negeri Kedah Darul Aman has ordered and approved the official declaration of Perak Island as Malaysia's Westernmost Reference Point for the Calculation of the Malaysian Hijri Calendar.

Before that, YBrs. Sr. Dr Ahmad Sanusi bin Che Cob who is also JAKIM's Astronomical Expert Panel has presented the first paper entitled Perak Island as Malaysia's Westernmost Reference Point for Islamic Calendar Calculation at Dewan Seri Mentaloon, Jalan Anak Bukit, Alor Setar.

Kedah JUPEM officers who were also present during the ceremony were Sr. Tsalimy bin Abdullah, Director of Surveying and Mapping of Kedah State and Sr. Mohd Zaim bin Omar, Deputy Director of Surveying and Mapping II of Kedah State and Sr Shazlin bin Omar, North Kedah District Surveyor.

The use of Perak Island's Westernmost Reference Point will begin to be officially adopted on the Hijri Calendar 1444H in 2022 AD.
